Hardy1

hi there, ive just passed my ACS-CENWAT1, CPA1, MET1, am waiting for my certs to come through then to get on the gas safe register, i would really appreciate it if you gas engineers out there could tell me what forms i need i know i need the landlords, warning notices labels id,ar e.t.c, but what forms do you guys/ladys keep, and one of my other questions is where can i get gas meter seals? and the crimper? cheapest price?, thanks for reading, please let me know, thankyou very much for your time, hardy1

no offence but you could be any one and trying to find out how to get info

Seems like you have the forms/labels side of things covered. If you want meter caps try BES. It will cost you more in postage than the actual product but none of the high St merchants seem to stock them.

Why you wanting meter regulator guvnor seals? , this is responsibility of EMS provider like transco, SGN, or NGN. you just phone them for this as its their job to alter the flow at the regulator.

Glad you said it, I was about to. Think he might have missed a few days training. No touchy!

MET1 allows you to ring up the esp get a reference number, they ask you for your registration blah blah blah, then they allow you to cut and alter the meter regulator, and seal it back upp, this is what we was told. cheers mikimac

Why would you want to have tat much responsibilty

It's their appliance. They come out for free. Let them get in trouble if it's wrong

Wouldn't be so sure your liability ins would cover this type of work. As you are not transco etc

I think Hardy1 you were informed wrong, that Info could land you in court. The regs clearly state its ESR responsibility and that any tampering with the seal is contravening this, UNLESS you are contracted to do this work on their behalf.

I think this is what the training centre mean, if you are doing work on behalf of the transport/esr and not for yourself on a customers behalf.

thanks for your info, but the ACS assesors told us that is what we can can do, and 2 of them confirmed it, no im :S lol

Well they are Wrong you can only work on one side of the meter legally imho

i agree, you should not be messing with the regulator on the meter
i know lots of gasmen (i am one) and we NEVER touch the reg

bit of a worry if this guy has just qualified and he had been misinformed and accident waiting to happen imho hopefully not

Your cant touch the regulator, and you probably wont know what your doing is correct, leave it to the guys who's job it is.

I thought Met1 includes training on how to adjust the meter reg.
It'd be a bit odd if you then weren't allowed to touch it.

Like every other job there are good and bad. Quite unusual to find 2 idiots working in the same acs centre. You cannot break the seals on a meter unless you are working for or contracted to the supplier or mam.

Met 1 or not you cannot adjust the regulator without the authority to do it which you won't have unless you are working for them.

when i done my training even on the ccn1 i had to copy a paragraph saying if i was allowed to touch it and just saying how to adjust it but then after they said your still not allowed to go near it haha

Can't touch it. Just like a sparky shouldn't touch the tails or main fuse.

just out of curiosity OP,
did you train at a training centre?
did you work with a gas engineer to gain experience?

Just wondering as this is something I would ask my gas engineer.

see like BLOd has just said, i dont understand it now, i was informed by 2 of them that you can ring esp get a reference and adjust the regulator if they allow so, but then as you are all saying it i will not be doing it, thanks for your infos, very much appreciated, i will be going back and asking the assesors there to confirm and might even make a couple of phone calls to confirm thanks for your time and help, cheerz everyone.

I got a good idea

Since your now qualified

Phone them and ask if you can adjust the one in your own home

Please post an update to this idea

got an even better one.
get called in to an incorrect gas rating as boiler is piped to 15mm supply, charge £250 for uprating supply, crank up from meter regulator jobs a goodun. 10 mins max.lol.

The only reason that training centres teach students about Meter Regulators is simply so that they understand how they work and can identify a potential faults - Working pressure problems, lock out, chattering etc, and to give students a clear understanding of how gas is supplied to a premises.

Just ring the gas supplier/transporter and they will attend in a few hours to set the reg. Easy.
