Gas safe fees for changing my company name and reg

For various reasons i am having to dissolve my limited company. Called Gas safe and ask the fee for changing the company over to a new one . £365 plus VAT!!!! They did say there will be no probation period but how can the possibly justify the cost ! Anyone done the same but managed to skip though a big loop hole without paying the ridiculous fee?

Sadly you need it so you'll have to pay it!

It's classed as a new registration as your company is no longer trading and instead you are trading by your own right.

I don't think there are any loop holes as all liability from the company is left with that existing registration, at least that's what I was told by someone I know who went through the same process.

That £438 is to be fair the most expensive magazine subscription ive ever known....but the law is the law hey.

Could be worse, you could have employees and have to pay to re-register them.

You aren't changing the name, you are initiating a new company, years ago I was Mowlem Gas Manager in Scotland, and we changed the trading name to Skillbase, then a few years later we were bought by Carillion and each time we changed the name etc no problem, but we were still the same entity, with the same liability etc,

I had this 4 years ago when my business partner died. Wanted to change name of ltd company but keep the same registration no. No can do came the reply, but would have been o.k if i had gone to sole trader status????????????
So like yourself got shafted for the £'s, and my reg no. jumped by 300,000
