Just received a customers Gas Notification which i sent to myself for an install a couple weeks back... ( customer is a policeman)inside was a
" please consider my property for a Gas Safe Register inspection" stamped address postcard...

I wondered how they arranged visits nowadays as i have not had one for 5 yrs... the new format is a good thing in my view,,, back in the day everybody could find at least 3 jobs that they had done correctly..

I have missed my little chats with our local corgi rep... all hail Alan Mathews... if you know him, you know what i mean..:D

i would be interested to know if this is how they now inspect work, but i thought they wanted to see if you ,yourself was compitent,ie watching you do a drop test, gas rate, fga on boiler,i,ve not had an inspection for 3 years, not that i want one,
last time, quick chat at office off to job, drop test, gas rate, cup of tea away

I will get the customer to fill in the form and see what happens..........

hi mate, yeah i have had this happen to me.what happened a customer filled it in and it took a bout 3months for them to come out and just do a check on what i did. then the 2nd time this happened i had a call just to let me know. about 6 months later i have got my 1st 3 peices of work inspection! which is at the end of month-im a bit nervous!! the company i work for hasnt had one for 5 years though.

Hi, Simple, they look at your boiler notifications and notify the customer of the visit. They go alone, and then provide feedback if necessary. If you have followed the regs, and manufacs instr all is cool. There are not enough feidl inspectors for the firendly chat at the mo, and the aim is on 2 things. 1. identifying and removing or training illegals, some of whom are good, some bad, and 2. identifying registered engineers who are good, and some bad and getting retraining. Think the days of local guy with time on his hands are gone for now. Sad, Liked the chats too.

my last one was 0ver 3 years ago didnt want to ge his shoes dirty by entering site so sat in car answered a few questions declined his offer of buying some publications and there he was gone
far cry from the guy who failed my install years ago we were hanging the boiler in a cupboard in bathroom obviously its easiest to hang boiler then build cupboard he failed me as boiler was at that time in a bathroom even though it wasnt completed

Must admit, retired now, so just had Warmfront put in a system.
Got the Gas Safe installation certificate in the post, that says, as a customer I can have it inspected by them if I want.

The installer does not have to be on site.

Hmm! About that back hander!!! :) :)

Begs a lot of questions Right ??? Has the change to gas safe allowed as yet the intended improvement - Greater Public Awareness - and more importantly - evidence that the system of engineer inspection is doing the job its supposed to - I'm sure its not just me thinking this but it kinda opens the doors to the illegals and poor quality engineers to get registered and carry on as before ??? Companies are supposed to check their own engineers and where i have had to attend to check the QA system it is just this, tick some boxes and off to the next guy, frightening - I am sure a few accidents will identify this unfortunately and eventually !
