Hi All,
Can anyone tell me what the brief is for the Gas Safe Inspectors towards us (Their Customers !!).
Are they told to act as policemen, judge and jury towards us or are they told to act in the interest of the public and installer without bias to promote safe gas practices.

It is with regret that our local inspector is alienating himself with the installers because of his " I am God" attitude and "If you dont do as i say i will have your registration suspended"

What is your local inspector like?

in the SW he fine, turns up, asks a few questions and looks at your work, checks your basic practices ie tighness testing and let by, has a coffee, writes a report and moves on.

A little like the corgi guy used to. How times change oldplumber!!

call his bluff and speak to his superiors, he has rules to abide by just like the resy of us, you have nothing to worry about if you know how to do your job, he cant hurt you in any way if you know your stuff, only those who dont know what they are doing are in danger, he will simply make a fool of himself if he tries to get too smart for his own good, what is he asking you all to do that you are not doing at the moment

Its not that we are malpracticing. I had an audit/inspection. All was well apart from the attitude. My customer was mortified about how he spoke to us. I dared to use a different method of gas rating to which he expected (with the same result) and he went bonkers. Tried explaining about Diversities but that was like pouring unleaded on a fire. I can only assume his mouth bleeds every 28 days. PS ive only been doing gas for 31 years!!!

glad i dont live in devon,
he might have had a bad day,we all get them, dont forget thou we pay his wages

wnjswozo, why are you glad you dont live in Devon? Your not Cornish are you? he he...
OldPlumber, does your inspectors name have the initials JC?

nope, but mine are, so call me God if you like. Hes glad he doesnt live in Devon cos of his 6 fingered hands that are seen as normal where he lives, lol

sorry dave I wasnt saying you were doing something wrong, you had mentioned a few of the troops weren't happy with him, but he is cr@p at his job if he needs to speak to people like this, i hate people who have to "prove" how clever they are, i always find that genuinely clever people never need to try to prove it. sounds like a jobsworth, get on the blower to his gaffer and demand a meeting/apology/plumb on a stick

Tend to agree with kirk, ok your a bit nervous at each visit but it shouldnt be purgatory but a means of checking your ok at your role and also a means of asking questions and updating yourself if need be, my guy gave us his mobile and said call me if youve any questions, cannt ask for more than that really.

Your inspector sounds like an prat, thank fully mine is a top guy who's only too happy to be contacted if needs be.

what he wanted? a swift kick in the nads the pedantic prat, inspectors should be educators and guide installers if necessary this inspector should get the bullet in regards to your question probably by the corgi book method and not the way we are shown on re sits

You got it bang on gasman. Did it the long handed method. Good method to know if you forget your charts.
Will take it up with his boss but he is a vindictive prat according to a couple who have fell foul of him.
