gas safe qualification

Ok been reading alot of reply's to this gas qualification, and alll say you need the on site experiance but does any body know how your meant to collect and present the information? how do they want this portfolio.

im looking at doing just a weeks training course but dont want to turn up emty handed?

Well I worked for 12 months for free alongside a gas engineer. I took photos and filled out the forms that the college gave me to document my progress and get a rather large portfolio together.

I had to complete 'x' amount of hours on cookers, boilers, fires and pipework.

If the college has not already told you what to do or expect, I'd be worried.

Please don't expect to complete a short course and come out gas safe registered and ready to work. There are a lot of companies charging a small fortune for these courses without explaining what is actually involved. What you need is experience, and that can't be bought I'm afraid.

I have not approached a college as yet, so that might explain my lack of knowlege, my cousin is a lecture at the college and i was waiting for a reply from him, didnt want to book a course untill i had bit more knowlege, so thank you will contact them to day and get on some form of course . they all seem to be willing to book me up for the weeks course but obviously i need to document this evidence.

There is no way on this earth that a weeks course and a self gathered portfolio will get you gas safe registered . When you get the details of the course will you please let us know what it entails. Thanx
