Hello folks!

I am a apprentice trained/qualified pipe fitter & plumber. Lost my job a little under a year ago in the recession. Went and did my gas training and i am now in the posistion were im looking to sign up with the register.

The advice im looking for from engineers is with regards to setting up in a partnership as i am doing. Would we better having a business registration, new app fee & adding a additional employe as i was told on the phone with the GSR customer services or having one each? What does the responsibility entail here? would it be seperate, one for the other or equals. Not sure at all what would be the best. Any help you may have would be great, thanks!

p.s first post, but not my last :D

get your own if it goes pear shaped, with partnership, you would have to apply again, also if partner drops the ball you will be liable as well

Thanks for the quick reply. That's what i was looking for. So both get our own and that way we are responsible for ourselves. I would feel more comfortable with this method. So would we then basically work together as two sole traders with separate gas safe id numbers and that would be fine?

Thanks again mate!

i,m in a set up that your thinking of doing, make sure you keep your money affairs seperate as well,ie tax,try to get 2 individaul cheques if both on same job,ie dont get 1 cheque, then you give your mate a cheque from from you for his cut, trust me cause all kinds of trouble with taxman, and they are clamping down big time.get yourself agood accountant he will pay for himself with savings.good luck

I can see what you guys are saying. It's a real cash issue at the moment, justifying having 2 separate gas safe reg's for one small firm of two just starting out. I think we are going to have to get separate ones at a later date once we are generating more work. It's the liability side that is troubling me somewhat in a shared gsr. I guess this is a worst case scenario situation and something that i will have to rectify when funds permit.
