How does a company become Gas safe registered without having there own gas engineers ?

You dont, your company must have a main name ie the registered name must be a fully certified engineer passing all relevant examination

a company that we sub to are gas safe registered but have No gas engineers they sub all the work out , asked how they managed that said easy just pay 400£ to gas safe and you sorted

That cant be true surely, when registering with gas safe your application will only be accepted providing you supply your ACS or whoever you sat exam with certificates to register the company & engineer

I worked for a company for 1 year as a subby and found out they used my details to keep their registration going for years after i left.
Then I phoned gas safe and found another company doing the same!!!!

All they need is your details and national insurance number.

What you do is you register a subby.

Ermi, hypothetically speaking: if my nipper and I fail to secure him an apprenticeship with someone gas safe registered in the Coventry area.
Would I be able to ask one or two gas safe registered engineers if they'd be up for subbing with me, trading under my domain name, and therefore securing my son employment that way.
It's something I would only do as a last resort, but something worth thinking about if he fails to obtain employment with a gas safe engineer as all I'm doing at the moment is passing work onto gas safe registered engineers with no thanks whatsoever.

Is there nobody on here in Coventry? You sound like a dream dad mate fair play

Darren that isn't correct, it's perfectly acceptable for a company to be gas registered and use subbies under their reg

It's perfectly acceptable for you to register your company with Gas Safe, and in no way dodgy at all, as long as you intend to do everything by the book, so register then get the subbie to do the work for you, then you invoice the customer and pay the subbie, that's what some of the the house builders do
You should consider altering your PLI to include this new work because you need to remember that if the work is "yours" so is the liability
In reality would this give your son enough work, ie do you pass on 40hrs a week gas work at the moment

You will find there are loads of companies who have listed a non gas person as the responsible person, I'm not sure it's ideal as I think a company should have a method statement which dictates the chain of command and gives the guys and girls in the vans a route to find out things they need to know

Never knew that, when registering my business I was asked to provide serials from certificates

That's because you had made it clear it was your business and you were doing the gas work, if a company registers they would prob need to discuss the fact they were using a subbie, or several subbies, the regs are written to try to cover this situation in that ok the firm can get registered but it must still also ensure that only suitably qualified people are issued with gas jobs, ie Carillion etc were gas safe registered but we had to have a system in place where only the gas guys got gas work, and not the builders or painters etc

Ooft Kirk if only that was the case when we were at Carillon haha ... Servicing boys having 8 services done by noon lol

Well guys, we've just contacted what appears to be a new company, as I cannot find them on the gas safe register: Elite Gas Ltd.
They're advertising here on Gumtree:
http://www.gumtree.com/p/jobs/gas-e...available-at-this-exciting-company/1053981953
Although they're advertising for Gas Safe engineers, we're hoping they may look at my offer in earnest, and take it up. I would be able to integrate their business/website with ours.
Here's hoping:)

Years ago under Corgi for a while our business had no engineers.
The GSR business with no registered operatives is respnsible for making sure all people (subbies) who do gas work do have their own registration.
Paper trail - making sure subbies have renewed each year.

The situation is the same now but I couldn't find anything about it on GSR website.

The "responsible person" is responsible for correct admin not actually required to know about gas safety.
That's just how it works - I'm not saying it's right!
