Had two quotes for a new combi and 7 rads but 2nd guy's registration is under his company's name and not his own...he would be doing it as a homer so not falling under his company's 'umbrella'.....what is the consequnces if I choose to go with him?

He can carry out gas work, if he does it under the registered company and is a registered operative with that company. Or is registered as a sole operative separate from the company. Otherwise he is breaking the law.

he wont be insured and if your house catches alight as he solders you'll not get a penny fm him as he will be bankrupt. His work wont be legal and the next guy in to sort out the mess is within his rights to rip put all the gas pipework and flues and start again! Anymore questions?

ooh forgot, boiler wont have any warranty on it:)

Also a good bit cheaper than the legit guy no doubt.

You will do what you will do regardless of the advice.
Be aware the boiler won't be registered either with gas safe or the manufacturer so you won't have a warranty and you will have problems if you sell the house.

ok thanks for the prompt replies guys....he won't be getting the job...and no ...no more questions lame plumber but without them is there any point in a forum?

thanks to all for your input especially scott_d who pointed this out to me on another thread...otherwise it wouldn't have occured to me
