Mollie

I seem to be having a bit of a nightmare at the moment between Gas Safe, CITB and BES.
We have been in business for over 15 years and now through no fault of our own we are not allowed to work due to the workload of BES and the time constraints put on them by Gas Safe I have spent hours on the phone to all of these organizations with each blaming the other for my current predicament. According to BES there are quite a few others out there in the same situation so I want to know if this is true. Also there is different information coming from Gas Safe depending on who answers the telephone.
Ok in a nutshell my ACS ran out on the 21st of March, new ACS plus additional courses were done on the 2nd of March, so everything was done legally and within the time constraints. My Gas Safe registration ran out when the ACS expired. Due to the workload or lack of staff at BES / CITB to get everyones information into Gas Safe by the 31st March they are unable to process my paperwork, so I am now left in limbo and I am supose to now turn down work, sit back and wait for someone in their own time to download information to Gas Safe. Well as I have bills to pay a mortgage and all the other usual stuff to fork out for I will now be classed as an illegal as I will continue regardless, if they would like to prosecute I will gladly see them in court.
Now the best part, according to Gas Safe as my current or rather recently expired registration has lapsed I will be required to submit a complete new registration at a cost of £400 + VAT, not only this but my vehicle livery will have to be changes plus get new stationary printed as all this includes my old registration number.
If my memory serves me correct when CORGI were running the show, they use to highlight your card in red if anything was due to expire.
So just how bad is it trying register at the current time...
If they are so concerned about getting rid of illegal gas workers, they are in my opinion going about it the wrong way, but I guess thats always been the case.... and now I'm one of em:D

sorry mate you only have yourself to blame leaving only just over 2 weeks for taking acs /paperwork verified/sent to citb and then onto gas safe
you should have allowed a month at least for the changeover and hardly very clever making the statement that you will operate illegaly is it

this is also why u can now take your reassesments in advance i think its something like 6 weeks prior if not longer. as they say ignorance is no excuse.

allways good to learn from other peoples mistakes.
point noted.

keep trying to give the grief, nothing to loose.

Thanks for your replies , I was asking the question a rather simple question at that and that is was anyone else in the same situation as according to BES there are 100s. Never asked for sympathy waffle. By the way ACS is for 5 years not 4 years and 6 months. Anyway I'll leave you guys to carry on your discussions about burner pressures and ventilation requirements:rolleyes:

Chill out Mollie, i do have sympathy for you. I think the whole system is not very good. The fact you have been doing gas for 15 years and something like this happens really stinks.
I too have been gas qualified and working on gas for 15 years (ish) but only for my company, which means i can go into about 15,000 houses in Plymouth (housing association) and do gas work, but cant nip next door or up the road and do gas without giving GSR £400 odd first. I wouldnt mind paying for registration but the £200 odd for a new registration on top of the £200(ish) yearly fee would mean i would possibly be out of pocket as i cant guarantee getting any gas work on a private basis.

It's six months now

check your facts, we are quick to come on hear moaning about everyone else's mistakes, you are allowed to take your ACS within 6 MONTHS of expiry with the 5 yr period starting from the original expiry date, meaning you dont lose any of the 5 yr life, it is mental leaving it till 2 weeks before expiry, so cant really sympathise with you, sorry

yes but you can carry over 6 months. therefore if u did it at 4 1/2 years you would get 5 1/2 years in return, you dont loose your extra months up to 6

Seems to me you slipped up there.

Wouldnt bother with the courts, you'll lose. In the CITB's eyes you let your training run out and in Gas Safe's eye you stopped working as a gas engineer then re-started so to them they will wan't request full payment. As i'd expect.

Good luck.
