Hi, I've been plumbing / bathroom fitting for about 6 years.
I am now looking into completing a Gas Safe course and was wondering if they are any good, which company to go with, and will I be employable with no experience in this field.
Basically - will I be wasting 3 grand of my hard earned cash.
Any help - advise appreciated.

Kevin

Hi there ,i did one of these courses and can tell you thats the easy bit.If you don't know a gas safe engineer who is willing to take you under his wing then be carefull.I,ve been on with my on the job training forever now and have had my pants down twice now. Can't believe that people can treat others the way i have been treated.I,m well out of pocket ,trailing allover the place my own diesel money and time working for free and when it comes to doing paperwork they just stop answering their phone

I was determined to see this through but am now at my wits end.Having gone through substantial savings i am ready for throwing the towel in and getting a dead end job.I,ve finally found a decent bloke who does my paperwork as i go along but unfortunately my savings are running on low and not sure i can last out much longer.Be very carefull unless your best mate is willing to help you out you better have a very deep pocket.

I did my course recently then was supplied with a mentor (he got paID £500 by traing company). Did my portfolio in 3 months an have just completed an passed my ACS. Yeah i spent a lot on diesel every day but my mentor got me through the process an in 4 weeks will be qualified. Whole process started in October an will be carded by April.

sorry about this, good information for anyone hoping to do a full cost course

Hi Mate,

Very sorry to hear of your experiences, but not too surprised either as some people just want to use your free labour with nothing in return!
THIS A VERY GOOD POST FOR THOSE CONSIDERING DOING GAS TRAINING!

If anyone is considering getting gas trained your probably best to train with the likes of Ableskills-who can arrange the portfolio side of things for you-will cost about a grand though.Could also have a look at Radmidlands,as they arrange for you to do your portfolio with ex-trainee's that have established businesses-there is no arrangement fees to pay with Radmidlands.

if you have trade related quals you should work with someone gas safe and then go to a college, the training is often better
