You are in the same boat as me. I am a plumber can't find a gas safe plumber to train with for my portfolio. So I have found a training centre that will gas train and place me with a company for the portfolio. Money can get you anything.

when you post with a request for practical assistance give us a clue and tell us where you are

question for indigo, i am a plumber looking to get into gas, in same boat although am self employed, who is the training centre that will train and provide a placement.

lomax at sunderland do this but itsexpensive and is a full time six months course

The centre is in Bromley Kent. Its called the Bromley training & assessment centre. Tel No. 020 83155678. I also spoke to gas logic. They wanted me to take their Prior learning course first even though I had covered every thing in C&G level 3. BTAAC accepted my level 3 and I dont have spend 10 days doing stuff I have already covered. Saving over £1400 and 10 days. Good luck.

Does anyone know if theres any places around manchester for the gas trainning.

oh sorry, id neevr heard of this until seeing it on this forum. I dont see how they can help with the port folio, theres alot of experience required before undertaking the ACS, its not for newbies but for experienced gas fitters/plumbers. without the correct related quals its about 240days expereince, how can a centre provide this?????????????/ I just dont get this, it sounds to me like some centres have found a loop hole and are yet again looking to exploit people and the quals by creaming alot of money from vunrable people.

i could be wrong though!

the place where im doing my gas foundation course as of september require 23 jobs in your portfolio before your allowed to sit your acs exams, the cost of the course was £830 and then you have to pay out for your acs exams wich if i remember were £500 for the ccn1 and £150 for appliance exams.

when you think about it the 23 job aspect is nothing and in no way do i expect to be a fully fleged and knowlodgeble gas engineer by then, but this will 'hopefully' help me gain employment with people who know more about the job. obviously working with a gsri at the mo is a great thing for me.

but to all the rest out there who are trying, keep it up, if you really want it you will succeed. good luck

i think the gas foundation course is a new course that delivers more than just the retraining for the ACS, is it about 23 weeks long? does it move you from a cat 3 to a cat 2?

yes thats spot on fuzzy, only thing diffrent from your post is, the course is 32 weeks long, but it does take you from cat3 to cat2.

It is tuff getting started if you are self employed i have being looking for a gas safe engineer in the manchester area wonting some free labour in exchange for helping me buld my portfolio

Have you managed to get any help in manchester for your portfolio

:(:confused::mad::mad::confused:

I paid £1200 for a 4 week course, only to find that no GS engeneers want a 40 year old apprentice, even if I do it for free

this has been covered so many times
its frightening how many people out there sign up for courses without checking what is required to fulfill the course
so therE is no doubt
YOU NEED A PORTFOLIO AND A ENGINEER OR ITS ALL A WASTE OF TIME
why do you all keep blindly handing over money with no prospect of completing tha acs or gaining employment
sorry if this is harsh but do a search of the people who have handed over their dosh without researching either the course or their job prospects
