hi

i have gas registered recently and i did gas safety check for hobs but there was hob plate missing. the engineer who have done last year described it as ncs. but what i think is it is not safe to use. ar?
please advise for me

If you have just done you gas courses refer back to your notes , If your not happy with it turn it off & buy a new one, not quite sure what you mean by Hob plate missing.

Is it the burner ring thats missing or just the cap that sits on the ring ,,,?????

I can not see how you are responsibly for someone using a hob incorrectly,
If there is no FSD then you could advise the risks to the customer and the benefits of installing a hob with s FSD ,
But you are there to make sure the Appliance is working correctly and in safe working order.
I personally had to ring gas safe for some clarification existing hob installed in a flat with no FSD the customer wonted to exchange the work tops and the existing hob reinstalled.i was a little unsure if this was ok to do as it was a flat and no FSD.
The answer from gas safe was its fine as its a existing appliance in the same property so could be reinstalled as long as manufactures instructions where available and appliance in good working order.
So I can not see how a hob with no FSD would be classed as unsafe and more to the point you being responsible for some one else using it incorrectly.
I'm sure there is going to be lots of different views on this but if I'm unsure on anything I take the advice from gas safe that's why they are there,in s lot of cases I know they don't give you s clear answer but they did this time.

assuming op means part of one of the burners ,its cap off and label time.

on the subject of cookers i can never get my head around how a seized solid gas tap can be immediately dangerous or even at risk

You could look at it a different way the appliance is not working as intended seized gas tap,The tap is opened by Mr or Mrs heavy handed customer who is looking after the house for the weekend for there friends there not aware there is s issue and they manage to open it but not light it for what ever reason and panic and can not turn it off at the seized gas tap.
The gas meters in the garage and there are no keys available and there only looking after the house so they don't even no where the meter is.
You have to remember that in most instances There's normally a least three contributing factors to any accident.
1-Faulty appliance
2-customers Freind not use to faulty appliance or house emergency shut offs and keys etc.
3-ignition source light coming on with a plug in timer that's also faulty

Take any one of these away and there is no explosion very unlikely sequence of events but also very likely this has happened and will happen somewhere.

So how Aboat the risk now looking at it from a different perspective.

Who mentioned FSD? It is a cap of some sort missing!

I did looking at the previous posts looks like I went a little off subject hey ho.
I suppose the subject was on hob and stiff gas taps and this was a recent job I had done we all some times go off track and get a little carried away.[emoji106][emoji106]

Im assuming hob plate would be the pot support? Dont think its burner cap. For missing burner cap I would ID and cap supply, as the flame isnt directed towards fsd if there is any. For missing hob plate I would turn off and issue warning label. FSD only a requirement if its a shared house.
