buckley plumb

tried to trace a gas smell today on a flexicom . the boiler stunk of gas at times . could someone advise on the following . I isolated the gas at the boiler and did a drop test on the boiler connecting my u gauge to the gas valve inlet - it dropped 1.5mb over 2 mins so not shutting off fully . but the question is I left the gas isolated on inlet valve and started boiler so fan would run and purge all gas out of heat exchanger then turned boiler off but the sniffer went mad when I put it near the flue outlet could this be just the gas smell from years of fumes in heat exchanger or reminants of gas in the valve .

Yes could possibly be just stale air off the flue. These sniffers pick up loads of things, even the fumes / vapours off leak detection.

Yes, very frustrating that is! I was working with a mate a while ago, trying to trace a leak. I was using my sniffer which was going mad, he was running around spraying LDF around.

How we laughed when we found out that the LDF was setting the sniffer off. NOT!
