An engineer has ticked N/A on the Gas Cert is this valid? When I spoke to Gas Safe they said its not, but when he spoke to Gas Safe apparently they said it is is valid?

maybe, but I have to say Gas Safe were not very helpfull. I know that the new certs only have the yes or no options. I take it that this is not valid then?

ayred are you a landlord? if so you might find this of benefit Gas safety frequently asked questions

Check out the back of the certificate you have been given/ got in your possession! Point 13. Test all disturbed gas connections for tightness using LDF. Carry out a full gas tightness if necessary. It's the latter part that is a bit ambiguous. It doesn't state have to but if necessary! Interesting.... However it's the landlords duty to have maintenance carried out that included maintaining the gas pipework. My reading of this is that tightness testing comes under maintenance & not gas safety checks which are designed for the appliances! You've got me thinking because I have always carried out a tightness test as part of the safety checks.......! I'm sure by the end of this thread it will be sorted!

Give us a bit more detail on who you are , what has been done and which gas cert it is , it may be fine .

This is another none too clear point to add to the list.
It is my interpretation that it is recommended practice to confirm the integrity(gas tightness) of installation pipework by means of a tightness test for a landlord safety check. For all it takes it should be done, but it is not mandatory.

Look at this question from the reverse side, if the gas installation is not sound then it must be unsound so it must be a failure.

takes him 3 minutes and even if their is no smell of gas prominent as part of the gas check he should be checking let by, so you may as well do a drop test

why not blank of you details with a bit of paper and copy and paste onto here then we can tell you in one go if its acceptable or not?

Hi guys, thanks for all the answers, ill get the cert on here tomorrow. By way of background I am an agent trying to do my job properly, I don't want to move my tenants in without a valid certificate. When I questioned the engineer he said that because he didn't install any pipes or smell any gas the option is not applicable.

So it is a Landlords gas safety certificate. So NA is not acceptable. For a landlords safety certificate the gas line must be checked, in my book thats a tightness test !
