Just wondering if there is anyone in the Bristol/Bath/south west area that would be willing to let me help on on some gas jobs to build up my portfolio to obtain my gas safe, many thanks . . . . . .

Guess thats a no then? Come on you experienced gas engineers in Bristol

Mate im in the same possition, But in manchester. Have you had any luck. Do you know there is a company that you can pay and they will sort your portfolio out in 3 weeks. Its £995 and its down south. Thats my last resort. Let me know if you find anything. This company is called "BeGasSafe" check it out.

Trust me, you don't want one in 3 weeks. It takes a lifetime to learn this game and you don't want to rush it

ad be a bit carefull of that, cos if it gets found out that you aint done it yourself you loose your ticket plus also anyone whos used them, lot to pay out to loose ticket

No its not like that, What i mean is that you go and work with them instead of wasting your time trying to find a gas engineer to help you. They take you on domestic jobs and watch over you. Sounds good to me coz i think i could pass the asc but cant do it cos there are no engineers that want to help.

ye wont do a portfollio in 3 weeks cos ye need the hours aswell you could have come with me if you,d done plumbing and were near to me but your a bit far

Everyone keeps saying this but i got 13 jobs done in a day. Im telling you, if i had two boiler jobs just change overs ide get 26 jobs minimun out of that in about 4-5 days. I only need 45 jobs for my portfolio. Its a piece of ****. Just finding a engineer is impossible. Absolutly impossible and it aint going to happen.

you need 60 jobs all signed off and theres a minimum number of hours carnt remember the amount kirkgas will no you have to have the gas rate /burner pressure drop test/tightness test for every job pictures of jobs pictures of enginners you have used plus it will take 3 weeks to sort the paperwork out and how you can get 13 out of 2 jobs is behond me you carnt just put anything has to be right and has to be a mixture of jobs and a boiler install classes as 2 jobs so you will need a minimum of 30 addresses unless ,say theres a fire or cooker your servicing at the same address ,cos at the end of the day you could be going in peoples houses on your own to work on gas so they are very thougher

No its not like that for me. There are procedures for installing combi's : Let By(job1) Tightness test (job2) Pipe sizing-correct ventilation if any putting the boiler in. Gas rate (job3) working pressure at meter(job4) standing pressure checks(job4)Working pressure at appliance(job6)Appliance relights(job6) Positive pressure tests(job7) Combustion performance test(job8) plus befor you take the boiler out you could probebly pull about 4-5 unsafe situations. With working with a gas safe engineer watching you do this thats atleast 8 off my jobs done and i need 45. For instance i need to get 3 tightness tests, thats one down in this job. BUT like i say, find an engineer who wants to help you out is the hardest part. Also you need him to sign it off and say you have done these jobs safely.

I agree in part. But I think you are missing something Hobo. When I did my foundation course I did all or most of the above disciplines on 56 odd seperate jobs, 30 of which were in different real people's houses, classed as "on the job exercises". All the 8 jobs you list have to be done on ALL jobs. I agree the "off the job" exercises; done in a workshop maybe consist of a "tightness test" or a "gas rate"

i think you,ll find mate when you take your portfollio back you,ll have miss heard them theres been loads on here and people i no and ive never heard it done like that before its a set criteria by the main training boards kirkgas will no plus you need a tightness test on everyone before you start work and as your leaving ,not just 3, sounds to me thats what you have to check for on each job, depending on what your doing, not each one as a job

i'm in the same boat as you guys and im based in East London, looking for a gas man to train with or work for free of charge and in return complete my portfolio......... but its hard to find someone!!!
