I am looking for a training provider for gas I have visited three so far (Able Skills- Dartford, Get Training - Grendon Underwood & Environmental Gas care -Aylesbury) has anyone heard any good or bad reports? they all offer different course structures and massively varied prices.

Background

I am a qualified electrician with 13 years in, and as times are grim figured was the best time to add some training I know my quals are not transferable but I do believe I am far from a new entrant to trade.

Cheers

Martyn

prob is all trades are just ticking over and its no different in plumbing/gas work before splashing out bear in mind very few offer the engineer u require to build a portfolio of evidence..best to stick to being a sparky and hope the recovery is round the corner..the shortage of tradesman has been massively overhyped to the point its not hard to get hold of a plumber these days but what it is is hard to get hold of a decent plumber as there are so many bodgers about now

Im not looking for a change in career... just adding skills whilst the market is quiet it will pick up one day and I will have the extra strings...

I have the place for the portfolio already :) just trying to select the best training provider.

maybe instead of retraining as a plumber, update/expand your electrical knowledge to control systems of commercial/larger plumbing installations.
an expert in bms controlled and trend systems would be a really good addition your portfolio, and with the right clients, you could almost work from home!!

As an electrician I have done an extensive amount of work with Trend BMS including controls for heating and ventilation in large industrial premises (up near you in the north west actually) I am always looking for new area's to expand certainly not looking to become a full time plumber - but knowledge is power and if you totally understand the systems you are working on and adjacent to you will improve the overall job.

if your up here, then i totally recommend on a personal level SGAS in blackpool, for your gas training.
i agree with you on knowledge and power, but to totally understand the system you dont need a gas course. you want a heating engineer course. you could just go to the library and read schematics on heating installations, that with your controls knowledge should get you the knowledge you require?!

try Gas4Logic they are in Basildon and Northolt ,probably one of the best around and price is good.
