How many of you hear this ' never had my fire removed before'

Been servicing now for a few weeks and everyday i come across BBU'S or radiant fires .
Everytime or nearly everytime i remove a fire to get at back boiler or to check the chimney the tennant then usually states they have never seen it done like this before ,,,,,,makes you wonder whats going on to be honest .

Had an example today tennant lived there for 10 years and said no ones ever removed the fire ,,,,10 years !!!!
So i said are you joking she said no , they come in check the gas meter , turn fire on and give a quick brush around then go , takeds them 15 mins .

Did some inspections for quality control on fire bbu's that contractors had serviced!!?? a few years ago when working for BG. Looked under & there was a burnt trail through the dust/fluff where the smoke bomb had been rolled!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Asked one of them what they'd done on the jobs & if they'd used a manometer? to which he replied 'a what? but I use a U guage......
I give up!!

Great to read you all giving a full and comprehensive service. Good on you.

(Apologies if this sounds patronising - it's not meant to be!!)

I always have people comment that they've never seen a flue flow or spillage test or no one has ever looked in the loft etc. It may be true or it maybe they just don't pay much attention.

I have capped off a few boiler and fires in the past couple months or so for having flues leaking in the loft. All the customers have said no one has ever been up there to check before, its worrying really.

went to a customers to service a gas fire that had formerly been serviced by bg for the past ten years, closure plate was behind the back panel of a fire surround so was impossible to inspect catchment space, advised customer that i would need to remove surround and back panel to gain access, once removed the debris(including six dead birds)was up to the flue spigot opening, that was nearly one less customer, reported this but heard nothing, this was over twelve months ago, worst one i have seen.

Was at a similar appliance just last week.
15 year old fire. Was serviced by BG for all these years. Confirmed by some documentation that was passed every year.
Could not remove the closure plate as was behind a marble effect, hardboard(combustible) surround/hearth with signs of scorching that was as old as the fire.
Disgusted!!!!
This is not the only BG serviced fire I have had issue with. There have been many more. That crowd get away with murder.

replaced one today serviced forever by bg hardboard panel burnt and flue partly blocked had to line the flue it was that bad

I would agree with you on this one. I get people saying all the time that the fires don't get taken off the wall. A while back I was servicing a fire and the lady said "they never did that last year" which I knew was rubbish because I did it last year and I allways sign the closure plate on the inside and date it. I showed her this and she just went red with emmbarrassment. I think some people just say it to make conversation although I don't doubt for one minute that some people don't take them off!!!

I just take everything that customers/tenants say with a pich of salt

this was found at a landlords inspection, the previous 'firm' had the contract for several years, the tenants explained they were very nice but only stayed for a short time, the chimney had a cowl fitted at least 5 years previously.
