Hello all , just a courious question really , how does gassafe compere with corgi ? is it cheaper do you get more bang for your buck .
what plus points does gassafe have over the old corgi system .
was it all worth the change .

opps sorry to everyone that might sound sexist , I ment eyes and ears , time will tell i would say pros and cons

i thought that one of the orignal reasons for the change was price and it was supposed to get cheaper? either way they are basically the same thing but Gas Safe has less employees/inspectors from what i can gather.

I thought it was the Marathon - snickers theory

Rebranding to make more people aware

Didn't work mind

forget safty its about ripping the pound out of your pocket.

what i cant get over after the time period is nearly every customer 8/10 or even 9/10 all say the same thing, are you corgi.....

Agree with all the above, no difference from what i can tell. Most customers no wiser and both just take the money from people who are trying to do the right thing by being registered anyway.

Interesting replies , as i thought probably no difference apart from the name and of course the people who made a lot of money no doubt . makes you wonder how everyone can be hoodwinked into change for change sake and when you have a long established name like corgi why change .

i am going to stick a corgi logo on my van and paperwork as i recon i loose work from some people who 'prefer' a corgi bloke, especially the pensioners.imo.

its a good idea, i fitted a new boiler the other day and the customers warranty card asked for the details of the corgi registered engineer :(

yep most people still say to me are are you corgi reg hope you are ,ave had one or to refuse to let me do the job cos i wasnt corgi and have never heard of gas safe, i never see any adverts saying its now gas safe and its no longer corgi a big advert inbetween x factor or coronation st would do the trick but our fees would proberly go up if they done this cos its run by capita which is the crb so just about money

can they do that steve?.
they no longer run the register but they sell trousers with the logo on, does that mean we have to take it off if we dont pay same with the van logo?. just a thought of where there weight is, personally they should be pleased for the publicity.imo.

at the moment the only differences i can see is gassafe are not trying to steal our customers how the hell can corgi be cleared of any wrong doing the data protection act was abused big style with job notification

Corgi trademarked the logo and name so it belongs to them. That is why the name had to change to gas safe as corgi wouldn't give it up.
It will now always be known as gas safe, whoever runs it as the name is owned by the HSE.

I can remember the days before there was any registration. A high quality apprenticeship was guarantee enough of expertise and no cash involved..

CORGI was run as a charitable trust. Any profits from the schemes commercial activities was used to promote gas safety. The gas safety registration part of the CORGI schemes was run at cost.

Now we have Gas Safe Register. Who are meant to be running just the register. GSR is run by CAPITA, they are on the stock market, so have lots of share holders who will be looking for profitable gains out of our pockets. Up to now they have redistributed our funds for running the register by cutting back, or should we say stream linning/economising. This only has short term gain because in affect less staff means less work being done, and that work not being done to as high a standard. But that might not be an issue if in fact we did'nt need that higher level of work in the first place.

So thats a view of the registration set up. Now who is better?

I think we have all answered the question. Its all about promoting gas safety, Who's heard of GAS SAFE REGISTER? who's heard of CORGI?
We used to see CORGI CORGI CORGI everywhere. I rarely ever see anything about GSR other than our own van stickers. So is it us paying GSR for the privliage of advertising thier scheme?

GSR do have certain key targets which the HSE have set and these are reviewed and do have financial penalties if not reached. The worring thing is, i suspect they are not reaching targets especialy public awareness and if they are fined its out of our funding for the scheme.

It would be nice to hear what GSR think about our views. I know they do watch this forum and have contributed in the past.
