Hey just wondering if anyone can help.
Do you have to be registered self employed to have your own gas safe,i know you can set up a company, but alot of jobs want you to have your own gas safe, and they are permanent jobs with a permanent contract. So how do you stand with gas safe if you say you are self employed then you end up getting a full time permanent position with a company but you are doing all their gas work on your gas safe, would you still need insurance or could you go under the companies?
If all that makes sense.

Thanx Adam

If you're working for yourself you use your own Gas Safe number. If your subcontracted to a company you usually use your own Gas safe number too. If you are employed by a company its usual to use their Gas Safe number. Whoever gets paid for the work usually has to have the registration number. Gas Safe themselves have no concerns regarding your status, they just want to be sure that you are technically competent, on the register and erm.. safe! I know someone who has two registrations, he works PAYE for a company and has another registration for his own work (homers or foreigners). Gas safe published a document recently advising installers that they may be deemed competent with their companies registration but working outwith the company without their own registration would deem them as illegal installers.
Sorry for being a bit long winded but I hope you can follow it.

you are daft doing their gas work on your gas safe number, technically if you are the only one doing it then it isnt too bad but others could get brought in and will end up using your number as well, too dodgy, someone should have PLI for the gas work, if the firm isnt gas registered they prob wont have permission from ins company to do gas work so it would be expected that you would have insurance for your own gas work, again too dodgy, why should you risk your PLI to make the company money, tell them to apply to GSR it will cost them £425 to register you as their reaponsible person and all gas work will then be done by you under their number, no risk to you as they are the ones making the dosh from your skill and work
