Ok so i have been called to look at some globe taps that are seized/stiff.

If worse comes to the worse i can replace them - however the taps have a female thread on them so if i unscrew them what os the likely hood of:-

a) the threads falling back behiond the bath and therefore not reachable without having to rip apart the tiled bath panel!!!?
b)the pipes being lead and not having a check valve on? (house circa 1930's)
c) the whole job being a pain in the derierre?

Ps the idea of putting my toirch on the gland to help undo them just gives me a twitchy whatnot

The tap heads should come off and be ok to service or you could just fit new heads however customer may not be happy having old worn bottoms left after spending so much on new taps
if you remove them you really need to get under the bath as it is not so much the fact the pipes drop back, but you may have to secure back fitting while tightening to stop twisting

good luck
imho

If they are the old Pegler ones you can strip them down and refurb them easily as they are well made.

If they need replacing, new globe taps are mega expensive!

some good advice on here,my only tip is....'do not' use a torch on the taps to free the seized parts!!unless you can get a heat mat that covers the bath surface! fire blankets are pretty good for this but whatever keep the flame as small as possible!

Well the heads came off fine the only resistance was from the tap handles which were eventually persuaded.

thanks for you advice chaps
