Hi all,

had a look at a glow worm 18sxi - boiler is locking out on F1 and occasionally F4, the boiler lites for about 5 secs then out, does it again etc etc. I noticed the boiler still has the old style seal which I am going to change but the earth nxt to the electrode seems pretty much burnt out, Im assuming due to the old seal - could this potentially cause the issue or am i looking at this wrong - condense is clear by the way, as is flue and gas to appliance.

cheers

Hi nysk check that theyre not on a card meter and that they do have money on meter, sometimes we always look for the complicated probs when its the simple ones, but failing that it sounds like flame sensing electrode or sparker thats at fault, give a clean and check your gap ,,, good luck

Youl be taking burner out and changing seal anyway so give it a good service and check integrity of spark el and flame sens el , replace your earth lead aswell and give it a go,,, soz just read thread again n noticed u checked gas sorry nysk,,,,

Hi Kris,

Cheers for the advise, gas defo to property as I checked the hob, think i'll change/clean the electrode, igniter im guess will be fine as appliance lites up but wont hold flame, could the burnt earth cable have anything to do with this fault though?

If they have never been done change electrodes & Lead (Think this is a kit now) spark generator also causes problems.

Of course , if the seal has gone on chamber then air gas mix will be wrong inside the chamber and this couldve furred up the electrode , but is it just the earth connection thats burnt or is there any sign of stress on the chamber or anywhere round the seal??? did you check the seal with a naked flame or piece of paper??

I would have thought more rectification error, as I'm sure F4 is flame dropout after it's been rectified, IE after burner has been on for a while. Might be something to do with earth lead as I'm sure it would need to be earthed.

But defo change burner door seal for graphite version, change electrodes, lead and sort earth out.
