from your replies im obviously missing something simple here, but its only simple when you know. il be honest with you the only time i have seen an old gas valve was in the training centre and even then we only looked at it for about 5minutes. this is the first time i have worked on one. (its in my own house and i wouldnt dream of working on one elsewhere until i know them inside out) if there is gas getting to the pilot and the t/c couple is working then am i right in thinking the problem is futher down the line, could be the t/c connector lead on the gas valve as there is something/reason for stopping the valve being held open? it was an ex british gas engineer that told me it was the gas valve, i would be grateful for any help, but not of the bisto variety. i may be qualified but no way would i call myself a gas engineer. think those days are a long way off yet need and want the experience first.
cheers.
how do i sign up to the gas forum?
