Gloworm 45-60 beyond hope ?

The thermocouple on our boiler failed recently. The engineer we called in to look at it was that it was missing some seals and after tests he said it was emitting combustion products. He insisted on disconnecting it and would not consider a repair or even an investigation. He wanted to replace it.

What concerns me is that the boiler seems fine otherwise. The room it is well ventilated. Following a cooker fan problem a few years ago we fitted a carbon monoxide detector. It has never registered any issues.

If any seals are missing they vanished at least 10 years ago.

Can anyone advise if it's worth trying to get a second opinion or do we have to accept his call. Meanwhile its a bit nippy here !

get a second opinion,ask glowshed if seals are still available is it roomsealed or open flued?you laymen dont understand the importance of ventilation judgeing by your post its room sealed and if the seals or combustion case are worn or distorted yes it is extreamly dangerous your co alarm may be faulty

Got to watch out for under preforming seals
You could get a second opinion and third and forth until you find someone bad enough who says thats alright mate,here you are ,have put boiler back on,you will have to pay cash though as he will be worried your estate will be put in probate before he has a chance to cash one of your cheques
