Went to job tonight on said boiler, pilot won't stay lit.
Replaced thermocouple for universal thermocouple (had one in van). This made no difference.
Did continuity check on over heat stat which had continuity.
Then bypassed the over heat stat which did not work.

Any help would be great.

Cheers

Gas valve or pilot not hitting thermocouple.

Grey button gas valve by any chance? ...... If so then deffo sounds like valve! IMHO

Yes, it's the grey push button piezo ignition valve.
Is there any way to test the gas valve and can they still be got?

Yes they're still available, and no there's no way of testing it. Just replace it.

Found a gas valve for it, £110 + vat.
Hopefully this should sort it. Going to pick up a thermocouple and overheat stat just in case but as I said, I checked the overheat stat which was if I'm correct beeping when I did a continuity test and the thermocouple was reading just over 30 mv.
It couldnt be anything to do with the control box just before I get the gas valve ?

No, not for a pilot. It's all done on tiny voltages generated by heat through the thermocouple.

You sure that pilots good and strong on thermocouple I went to one the same and it was weak partly blocked pilot

Just to make sure i put my blow lamp on the thermocouple , this made no difference.

Picked up a gas valve today, managed to get hold of one with out the main solonoid as I can use the existing one as it screws off. Half the price of full valve. Grabbed a thermocouple too just for good measure. I'll report back tomorrow to finish up this thread, hopefully with good news

Ok got to the job and put the new gas valve in, took the main solonoid of the existing gas valve and put it on the new one, fired up straight away. started banging very load, pump was seized up so replaced it. Everything works fine.

Thanks for the replies and happy easter.
