buckley plumb

was asked to look at an older hxi - fan error but from doing gas cert on the boiler last year and knowing what sort of condition it was in and the possibility of it being fan and board I advised they call glowworm - customer paid £199 online call out and they replaced burner door / seal / fan and pcb how are we to compete with this .all I can say is keep passing big jobs like this your customer is happy and the manufacturer will soon stop lol

I had similar thing with a 30 cxi a few months ago, I suspected main board (it has 3 ) it was close to £180 quid plus I had to fetch it and fit it. I advised the custard to get a fixed price repair off Glowworm.
For once I got it right, Glowworm replaced the main board , bang !! It blew, he fetched another board replaced a sensor and the fan.
Customer was well suited, me for being honest suggesting it in the first place, and she payed probably half price of what the repair would have cost in the first place.

got an hxi with display board failure, and probably main board failure, advised new boiler, seemed the only sensible option, installing an intergas idc !!!!!!!!!

I always tally price of parts before giving final decision to customer, best thing is to get to know your local service engineer and get tips off them,it's sometimes nice not to have the worry if a part that you've thought is faulty,is taken out by other parts.fitting a new boiler isn't always the way forward!!!

having given the customer a price for parts and labour totally £500 plus, seems uneconomic to do anything else, best thing is to be sure of your diagnostics as you say, leaving a heap in definitely isnt the way forward!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

had a few like this fit the new board then it does not rerecognise the display board

We are surely in the business of diagnosing and repairing. If anyone is uncertain it's a good idea to liaise with the relevant helpdesk. I'd be reticent to pass work away to any manufacturer, there's a strong chance you'll lose that customer to the manufacturer.

I agree but for us to replace those parts would be unpractical always been honest with customers .

how many customers would tell you that you have undercharged on parts and let you walk away having done a job that should have been charged at a higher rate? There aren't any friends in business, no used car salesman is going to tell you that there is a better van for sale over the road, its business and if you dont do the job someone else will profit.
