Would like to start by saying not interested in fixing this myself. Not a heating engineer and have paid lot of money for new system. So want the professional who fitted it to sort it. Problem being he looks blank when I ask what problem is.

Here goes.....

Brand new system fitted late last year as part of refurb/extension. Everything new, boiler, pipe work, radiators etc. Grant Vortex 36e recommended by guy doing installation and he provided Siemens RDJ10RF thermostat.

Problem... Worked fine for about 6 weeks. Since then the boiler has started comming on during the night and the only way to turn it off is using isolator switch. There is no control using the thermostat, and no sign on the thermostat display that the system is running. Needless to say this doesn't happen every night. But more often than not.

The thermostat is set to 10°C in energy saving mode and 20°C for the comfort temperature. My understanding is that the boiler will heat to 20°C during set programme times and will fire when the temperature falls to 10°C outside those times and heat to 20°C. We haven't had the temperature fall to 10°C so it shouldn't have come on at all.

When it comes on during night it was going up to 23 or 24°C. We have had new thermostat and receiver unit but the problem remains but now only goes up to 21°C.

The problem has occurred during the day but only a couple of times.

Any help or suggestions gratefully received.

If it's external then it's the frost stat so wire that in with a pipe stat on the return set to 15-20degrees.
if it's internal sounds to me like it can be the a zone valve faulty ie sticking open sending live back to the boiler. The boiler will operate on its stat only then! Get your engineer to check out the wiring in the junction box- straight forward really!

Thanks for the replies. The boiler is external.

I will speak to the engineer about your comments.

If it's the new model then the vents for the boiler are right next to the frost stat so it needs to be set really low.
