Hi
I am new to this forum, so I thank all in advance for any help.

I have a 30 year old basic gravity heating system with a back boiler (boiler changed more recently). I have a philosophy of if it isn't broke don't fix it, and it has all worked well for many years.

I would however like to add at least a cylinder stat to control the water temp for a new digital shower I intend to fit.

Can I fit cylinder stat to a 2 port valve on the 28mm return next to the cylinder wth very simple wiring to just shut the supply to the cylinder, my first floor rads run off this 28mm circuit. All rads have thermovalves (except one). The first floor rads run from this 28mm flow and return.

Thanks

Peter

Hi, just a quick question.
When you say the 'back boiler' was replaced recently.........What was it replaced with??

not really to make it work properly you would need to upgrade the system to fully pumped

Is the whole system gravity or is part of it pumped?
What's the new boiler?

So the cylinder is another "rad" on the upstairs circuit?
Does this mean the upstairs rads get hot when the cylinder is being topped up? Or can you have HW on its own (in the summer)?

If you have a cylinder on a gravity system off a back boiler then surly the back boiler is solid fuel? so no you can not fit a valve and thermostat to your return

When I said more recently, I meant more recently than the original system. The boiler is a Glow worm Fire blaze (coal effect front). I am fully aware that it is not now up to date and not efficient, but I like it, and it is alot of work to change.

Peter

No, the back boiler is gas, Glow worm fire blaze.

Ground floor rads are pumped.
Yes the Cylinder is effectively another rad on the heating circuit, although indirect and off 28mm pipes.
I have to turn off first floor rads in the summer, or rely on TRV shut down.
