Hi Everyone

I'm diying my first bathroom so apologies if some of my questions seem a little dumb. :)

I will be fitting one of these Grohe frame/cisterns in a couple of weeks and have been going through installation instructions, forum posts etc. I have a couple of things I don't understand and would really appreciate your help.

1. I've read that fitting the pan can be tricky as the length of the 2 metal rods that go from the frame to the pan have to be at the right length for the black fixings to expand and grip the pan. My worry is that if I do a practice run before fixing backer board and tiles, the rods will be too short to grip pan once the wall is tiled. Can the length of the rods be adjusted once tiled (without access to the frame)? Or do you practice fit and then guesstimate allowing for tile thickness, backer board and adhesive before tiling?

2. Can the waste elbow be replaced with a standard pan connector so that the waste can go straight out the back to a vertical stack rather than down with the supplied waste elbow?

Thanks a lot for all your help!

1. Don't worry. I'm sure you can adjust the rods as much as you like when you come to fit the pan.

2. I'm pretty sure you can go straight back. You may need a separate part. Speak to your supplier.

Yes bolts can be adjusted and yes you need another part to go straight back
As said above ^

Hi Guys

Thanks a lot for your help! Will call the shop tomorrow. :)

On the Gebberit ones the bolts are threaded and can be wound in and out to suit, I assume the Grohe version will be similar.

You don't really need the pan connector with them, its just whatever fits.
Make sure you get a solid fixing in the wall, and make sure the floor fixings go into a noggin and not just a floorboard.

Sorry guys but I have another question... :)

The instructions say to conceal the frame with 2x 12.5mm plasterboard (ie 25mm). I'm using 12.5mm Marmox backer boards for the whole bathroom. Do I still need to double up or will one 12.5mm Marmox board be enough?

thanks again!

Hi Everyone

I bought the straight piece I need from grohe but I think I may have damaged it. I did a dry fit and to get it in I used washing up liquid (it's a push fit fitting) on the pipe and rubber seal. I then took it out. This was a week ago.

Ive now read tonight that washing up liquid must not be used as it damages the seal (id heard it was ok that's why I thought to use it). Now I can't get the pieces to fit together. Should I buy another fitting to make sure it doesn't leak when it's all fitted or in the future or should it be ok? As it was only a week ago, would soaking the fitting in water and letting any residual washing up liquid dilute or wash away help? Or will the damage already be done?

Please help.

Thanks a lot!!!

Was it all off and it should be grand it ruins the rubber over time but a week should be ok

ThanksGray.

Washed it all off and it's fitted now. Had to join to old cast soil in a horribly awkward space...hard work! :(

Problem with water supply to the cistern though. Using 15mm speed fit pipe into the Grohe brass compression fitting that clamps onto the cistern. Thing is that Grohe tech say its a 1/2" fitting that should take the speed fit but it barely goes in. The grohe compression fitting is about 2" deep and can barely get 10mm of the pipe into it (with a lot of twisting and pushing). Anyone had this problem before? Or does the supply pipe not fit to the bottom of the grohe fitting?

thanks again! (& again, & again! )

Oh! Thanks for that. Should make the job a whole lot easier! Shame the Grohe Tech guys thought the pipe went straight into the fitting...spent ages trying to wrestle the pipe into it.

Good to know its a nice and easy job tomorrow! :)
