I am compiling several quote sheets for myself to try and stop me forgeting things when quoting jobs as i am always wishing i collected more information and was looking for suggestions on what information you all collect when quoting the following jobs, so i can see if there anything i am missing out, and what you collect when quoting, also can you let me know if you include any technical drawings with the more complex quotes or do you keep them back and say subject to techincal drawings and wait untill you have been accepted first as i am sure people are using my pipesizings and scales on some of my jobs especially the LPG jobs.

welcome to the forum.

its all down to experience. i'm down to a postage stamp now normally written on it is the postcode and house number.

🙂 got to love that but i don't do many plumbing based installs, i mainly stick to boiler breakdowns and boiler changes, these plumbing jobs i don't do many of so what i want to do is to save me forgeting to ask where the stopcock is and so i can record condition etc

So when i get an acceptance 3 weeks after and 20 jobs since i can just pick up the paper and go, ok this job and have all reasonable questions answered.

stopcock Location, Bath Size, Area to pass to tiler etc

So ideally looking for, things to look for, what to check etc. not just things i currently do things others suggest, this way i can make some form of checklist / form and record my data, then when i come back to it, its all there along with material lists etc ready for me to order and have it all for the start date.

Once i have opinions etc im then going to sit down in the sun with a couple of beers and make myself the checklist / form

Thanks

Hi.Using a camera can act as an aid memoir. I have used printed photos of simple jobs agreed with client were pipe runs etc will be, drawn them on the photo as the instruction to the plumber carrying out the work.

Good to see I am not the only one who does this...😱

As a Plumbing technical manager I once worked for a company and spent months writing out list of materials for the different jobs.

The idea being you could just go to the type of job and find an approximate labour cost and the materials required for the basic job. Then just add the extra work on top.

Did it work?

No took to long and everybody just wanted to know how much it cost not the details. So pricing was all guesstimate and experience not technical and complicated.

Mind you I suppose it came in handy if the customer asked for an itemised bill. But they seemed to seldom ask, that is, until the main customer started to ask for your set prices for minor works.
