Hi All,

I have heard of so many ways of how people hang radiators some measure from the top of the bracket some measure from the bottom some like it of the skirting board some dont.

What do you find easiest way to hang a rad along with any tips

Cheers Nath

Downstairs rads 6 - 7 inches off skirting to leave space for pipes to run underneath

Upstairs rads 3 inches off skirting or just put the level on the skirting board and use that

I Measure 2 and half inches (2 1/2") up from the top of skirting and mark, this is where the bottom of the hanging brackets go. Simples

That's awful high? 6/7 inches above the skirting?

Yeah, 6 inches to bottom of bracket from skirting leaves just enough to pipe rad up. It's when running the pipes along skirting board.

I get u now, u mean if ur piping it surface? Rather than below the floor

I always mark the bottom of the braket, if you mark the top you can sometimes see your pencil marks when the rads hung.

Hi. When doing a bit i would try and keep the bottom of the rad low enough so as i could fish the pipes without having to take to many floor boards up.

At least 150mm of the floor if they are convection rads, so as the convection has a chance to circulate... then it depends on the size of the skirting..

The basic idea is to fit them at a height that the rooms occupants will not get cold feet. Don't forget hot air rises. So if they are too high it creates a lower cold zone.

What does this leave you for the pipes then? Is this running both flow and return on the skirting or on the wall above the skirting?

Cheers all

It all depends on where your hanging the rad, ie :Under a window, is it a towel rail. In and ideal rad hanging situation I always leave it 8" from floor to bottom of rad. Unless the skirting is higher than 6" then I hang it 2" above skirting.

ive always worked to top of bracket measure top of bracket with rad on the floor and then add on what ever you need to raise the bottom of the rad to the hieght you want either skirting hiegt of higher if theres surace pipe work
to get the width of the brackets either work from a center line and measure of the rad or stand rad in place and mark the bracket positions on wall directly

Towel rails are for drying towels not heating the room, although most people use them for this purpose then find this out afterwards, i am hanging two this morning either side of a large bath three foot up the wall... !

Told them they still need a rad, i can retro fit one at a later date if need be...so i think that is the way we are going..
