Any markings on the waste anywhere? Make of Bath? - perhaps it was supplied with it?
No makers marks visible, I've looked at dozens of pop up wastes on Google but can't find this one, the two pipes in the photo are actually the overflow pipes, I've worked that out so far, might be able to disconnect them and pull the trap out with the pop up mechanism and see what's going on, but would like to find out if spares are available. Thanks

Ideal standard sorry to say discontinued was a 70lws

Surely one is the overflow and the other the pop up
Yes, the two pipes in the second photo are the overflow arrangement, (bit of an odd idea), the pop up mechanism is in the box type fitting below the bath, I have managed to identify the unit, although it is obsolete I think one company on google has one in stock at around £140, I might just remove this old unit, cut a new hole in the bath and fit a standard overflow with a plug, those pop up wastes are a pain when they go wrong, as they all eventually do. Cheers

Where does it overflow then if no existing hole?
Yes like I said it's a crazy design, the two pipes in the second photo go up behind the bath and join together just below the taps, as the bath fills up the water rises up one pipe through the plug hole to the same level as the bath. It looks like the seal to the waste is in the box below the bath not at the plug hole. If the bath over fills the water goes over one pipe and down the other into the trap. You have to ask who designed this and why.

It's called how to over complicate something for some reason that made perfect sense at the time.

The plug must seal below the level of the upper overflow outlet from the trap then?

Hi, thanks for your reply, that's the exact same thing, I think one company on google has one but it's £140 + delivery, I'm just going to scrap it and fit a standard overflow to the bath, I'll only need to cut a hole in the bath for the overflow outlet. Cheers Steve
