I've just returned from France - amazing plumbing out there!! The shower cubicle was on legs and each rested on around four broken tiles. It was quadrant shaped with one side against the wall and the other side about an inch away so the pipes could fit behind it.
Amazingly it didn't leak or creak or move around.
