Has this ever happened to you?

Was down the pub last night drinking away my vast wealth (earn't £100 last week, after being undercut on a big job I was banking on) and was speaking to another plumber who tells me that he was doing some work on a WC and the isolation just "gave way". I have never heard of anything like this but it did make me think could this actually happen?

Ever heard of it or happened to anyone else?
 
Probably agressive water and poor quality brass which got dezincified. Never heard of it with an isolation valve but its possible.
 
Hi Tom, Yeh the ball o fix. He tell me that it was isolated, one end disconnected and the other still on nice and tight - he rekons water just started pi**ing out of the end which was disconnected.
 
Was it fitted the correct way round? If not, water pressure can open the seals.
 
Morning WHPES - Yep so he says, the arrow was point the correct way.
 
yep, 8 bar mains or more on a cheap fitting thats hasn't been used for years can go pop

Many a time i have turned the screw to have it come out of the screw, not yet had it pass but have had them not fully isolate any more
 
Cheers for that Tom - I doubt knowing the area they are at 8 bar but I guess it goes to show that these things can happen.

really appreciate that mate as couldn't understand why this would happen. Thanks aswell WHPES for your thoughts on this.
 
Been to a few jobs where the ball o fix is passing, The old brass ones are bad for not turning atall,
 
Had that today!😱, was replacing a wc
cut off the cold supply from the old wc fitted Ball valve, then before i could fir new wc had to plaster bord behind, so was busy cutting plaster board with my to the Ball valve............what a shock i had when i saw that the valve was passing🙁
was not a happy chappy! lol
 
always have cap end etc in your bag and a towel at your side, saves a lot of grief
 
cap ends are the only things i speak to sometimes, there always in my pocket just incase, you know what its like when you get lonely😀
 
time to get yourself a jack russel to guard your van contents (and steal your lunch)
 
a ballofix passing,for gods sake some of these posts i shake my head i really do😕just take it out and fit a new one and dont rely on them in future,i am still shaking my head, trainees and all that duck to water they said square peg in a round hole ok rant over no offence meant long day and all that
