Have I wrecked my toilet. I rented my home for 6 months and when I returned the toilet was extremely dirty. Someone told me to use caustic soda and then scrub the toilet bowl. Now I have black lines where Ive done the scrubbing. Does that mean that the caustic soda has wrecked the porcelain? Is there anything I can do. Ive now read these other posts and will never use it again!

Quite possibly ? caustic soda is a powerful drain cleaner and not a toilet cleaner there are more user friendly options I'd try a slightly abrasive type cleaner Google "the pink stuff " great for cleaning enamel baths and sinks if that doesn't work then its goosed ☹️I'd say . Kop
