GSR Indie fitting heating..

Meter subjected to mains water pressure !

Luckily the error was noticed quickly otherwise there would have been a very large £££££££ bill for filling up the local network with water.

As it was,the living room was a bit wet !

Yep! I've crossed a 22mm flow and a 22mm gas under the floor once. Filled the meter to 2 bar! Seemed to take ages. Thought I'd leave it to settle for a bit whilst I did a tightness test etc. removed test point and a jet of water sprayed down the hall way! Bad day!

Its that North Sea Gas...always has a bit of water in it....

woops, never crossed gas with water, cut a 28mm live water main under the floor once, didnt need a shower that day!

Crossed a hot water and heating pipe before when house bashing was filling h/w up first only to go downstairs to check around to see water spouting out of 1 of the rad pipes

i have done the same a few years ago,my mate phoned transco to say that the meter needed replacing, and the reason too much pressure. i was doubled up on the floor watching water squirt out of the dials. not very profesional i accept but in my defence its only happened once in thirty odd years

done it once, never again meter literally turned into a balloon

only done hot/colds and flow /returns
to be honest dont see how you can fill meter up if your suppose to take it out cap blah blah blah

re-instating gas meter is always last thing i do then this would never happen although have made other boo boo's in various forms :)

I have seen this trash a gas valve on a brand new Worcester high flow, and £2.5k built in Drugasar fire, 4 ft long and built in, looks like a fish tank.....and mucho other stuff, the guy was a BG employee doing a "govie" read no insurance!

Not done it myself, but had a job not so long back that someone must have done. I went to turn the gas back on in an empty property that had been looted for the copper. I turned the boiler on, it fired but soon went out. I can't remember how I figured it out in the end, but I had to cut the 22mm gas under the floor boards downstairs to drain the water out before coupling back up to it. There was about a litre of water that came out.

Been back..customer now has water coming out of her nice living flame effect fire. Looked a bit like the Bellagio fountains in Vegas. I do hope that self cleaning flux doesnt eat away at the fire too much. Cut off/DGI/Depart...

time will tell and we will all be able to tell a tale of sorrow and mirth. My worst to date was pressure testing some pipework in my flats for the push fit end cap to blow off and hit the missus on her bum, followed by some v high pressure water. Id been pumpimg away on the old lever trying to get some pressure, when i noticed the needle was stuck on the stop, gave the gauge a tap and it shot upto 16bar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! then the end cap failed. I couldnt see for tears of laughter, she wasnt happy and her bum check went purple, cost me a lot in meals out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So you married her then LP.?

was married already, but it almost caused a divorce, I discovered laughing at a wet wife isnt deemed acceptable!!! you know, the foods in the dog sort of thing

The irony is, that most plastic is rated to accept 16+bar in a test situation.

I was bored so read the gumpf on a roll of Polyplumb the other week. From memory I think they want it pressure tested to 18Bar, but only for half hour.

PS - wasn't just boredom, I was also testing some UFH loops. Ended up calling tech line to get their opinion as wasn't going up to 18bar. They happy with 3+.

Piped up a worcester Ri once flow to the left tand return to the right turned the water on and it was running out the "correct!" flow pipe. Must have gotten some water into the gas valve but it worked ok.

Lol one of the lads did this 2 months ago, dried gas inlet out, it's still working!
