An easy one I’m hoping. Replaced main water header tank valve as kept getting stuck and overflowing. No probs with the replacement but since completing, the noise of water running through the pipes as it refills is very loud, so much so that we dare not flush the toilet late at night as the noise could wake up my daughter whose room is below the main tank. Any thoughts on why this has happened since replacing the valve and how to cure it?

Pic of valve would be useful see which type it is
Hi, something like this which was a direct replacement of what was in there.

Shall we say cheap and cheerful part 1 ball valve
Which have been illegal to fit for many years (tho not to sell!)
Much better with a part 2 ball valve better still we use fluid master side entry valves fills quicker much quieter

It's not the rate of flow of water into the tank.. That's the same. Its the water noise in pipes. My thought was air but could not figure out how that could be the case.

Sometimes, strangely enough, replacing the high pressure nozzle (small orifice) with a low pressure (larger orifice) cures the problem. If you havn't binned the old one you can remove the nozzle and compare or fit it in the new ball cock.

Why are they illegal to install now?.

Contravenes current water regs for new builds. Reason being is that part 1 discharge from the bottom, part 2 from the top.
With part 1 there is a higher risk of submergence and potential back flow/mains contamination if there were a mains pressure drop.
Part 1 should be replaced with part 2 when needed.
