does it matter if you fit a heating expansion vessel to the flow or return pipework?
i fitted one to the flow at the hot water cylinder and it filled ok and it the heating is working ok, just wanted to know.
i do have the card and know it says to be fitted on the return but does it matter?

The relationship between the pump and the expansion vessel is what determines where on the system the expansion vessel should be situated. Ideally it should be on the inlet side of the pump so that it is under negative pressure. Fitting it on the return side of the system also ensures that the temperature of the water is lower which will prolongue the life of the membrane.

thats good to know that it makes no difference, its just i had it all finished and realised what i had done. i respect what your saying that it should be under negatove pressure from the pump. i could change the pump direction.

would you bother>>> if it makes very little difference or at all???

doesn't make any difference at all in fact various combi makes have it on either flow or return

if you wish to change the vessel due to poor installation techniques then ignoring the fact that it lasts longer on the negative side and it has clearly been stated within the manufactures instructions then installing it incorrectly does not make a blind bit of difference

does the customer know where you live, if not it doesnt matter, if they do know where your from dont give them the instuctions for installing the expn vessel, it wont help you get a call back for other boiler faults.

Never change pump direction - will likely cause all sorts of problems.

Sorry guys but that picture belongs in Peter and Jane books.

If the pressure vessel position is to be trusted as good practice, so are we to believe that radiators should get hot when only hot water is on ?

The hot water return should be the last connection along with the bypass rtn.

Kev.

that picture is from flamco's expansion vessel manufactures instructions. as said everything is working fine and i fitted it to the flow.
