the heating and hotwater come on as per the programmer, but the heating will randomly turn off.

Do you have a battery operated digital thermostat ? A low battery will initially operate the "on" relay then run out of puff after a while.
If it is all mains then more info needed.

not to sound to obvious but whats the room stat set at ie if its set at 10 or 15 it will only heat to that temp and cut off (sorry not teaching to suck through straws).
