Heating setting works but not hot water setting

Hi,

a couple of weeks ago the hot water setting on the central heating system stopped working. The only way to get hot water was to either use the electric immersion heater or have the whole central heating system on.
A defective programmer was disagnosed as the problem (an elderly Horstmann) and this has nw been replaced by a Drayton. However the issue still persisits. The boiler doesn't fire up on the hot water setting but works fine on the heating setting (which also heats the water). I'm baffled (doesn't take much!) any ideas what is the cause?

sounds like motorised valve, who diagnosed your problem ??

Thanks for nthe quick response. It was an electrician recomended by the recommended plumber!
Do yoiu know where am I likely to find the motorised valve and is it difficult to test?

I would get a heating engineer in to look at it whos clued up in electrics and plumbing.
