I'm at arms with my landlord..

We've had a bad leak for over 2 months now where I've had to refill our system 2-3 times a day.

Now, I'm not talking just topping up pressure.

The leak was basically an elbow joint that had snapped and would drain the entire system in 3-4 hours.

We just had a £350 water bill and I asked for something towards it since I reported the leak in October.

They fell me they'll give me £50 and that topping up boiler pressure doesn't take much water.

Aaarrrggghhh

We have 7 double panel rads and a greenstar 24i jnr. Surely filling this 2-3 times a day over a month that's a lot of water?????

dont want to take the **** mate but if its cost you that much couldnt of you sorted it, and least its sorted then ?

Not his responsibility is it really. Put your complaint in writing, isn't there an ombudsman or something you can go to?

I can't as I'm renting and don't think insurance covers it if something goes wrong.. Not that it would. Plus flooring had to come up so I wasn't about to do that without landlord saying it's ok

i know its not but your got a hope in hell if hes getting anything off the landlord sorry to say (esp if hes shot your question down)

Don't think so.. Tbh I don't wanna go that far I'm just a bit peeved that they said 'we've spoken to a few of our heating engineers and they've said topping up pressure doesn't take much water'.. I bloody know this but refilling a system does! Grrrr

Fix it forget it you got the skills. Why give yourself a headache?
Its been sorted now but I don't earn money to burn on water bills when its not entirely my fault that its so high..

You could try ringing the water board. Tell them leak is fixed and could you please have a refund. Severn Trent are pretty good like that up here. If you don't ask you don't get :)

I'll give it a bash! I won't hold my breath with Thames water though ;)

I had a job last year, where a shop and a flat had a shared meter, yet the shop paid the bill, the flats toilet had a leak and water was basically pouring out of the over flow,
I re piped the main and the Shop owner got a refund for £2340 as he could prove how much water he was using

How did he prove how much water he used?

He had recordered all his water usage since he got the shop, and once i carried out the work, the waterboard came out and read his meter about 5 times and he'd used nearly no water in that time, It took him about 8-12 months to get it sorted and get a refund mind

You would be paying about £ 2.10 per 1000 litres which includes the waste water charge.
Guess you would use a maximum of 500 litres a day (doubt it would be that much) filling the system 2 to 3 times a day. That would be just over £ 60.00 for the two months so not far off what you have been refunded. If you have put that much fresh water in the system it will be new rads next!

Then £50 is better than a kick in the balls!!!! Thanks for the info mate ;)
