Hi,
I've almost completed my city + guilds 6129 and really need to get some experience with a local plumber (preferably payed as am supporting partner and new baby)

I'm about to write to all local plumbers to see if anyone can offer me something. I would like advice on how to word the e-mail for best results as I really don't want to mess up first contact with so many possible employers.
I've done several bathroom re-fits locally through people I know and all have gone well.
Also any advice on getting my own insurance - would this make me more appealing to employers? All advice/suggestions appreciated and welcome.

Cheers,
Jim

As above, its more personal with a letter written neatly.

Good luck

Jim it may be of benefit for you to set yourself up as a business, get insured and offer your services as paid assistance whilst learning the trade? I don't know how that fits in with your circumstances? A lot of sole traders can't afford to employ someone but may be willing to offer some part time work as and when available. If you're on the books of a few guys it may pay ... Don't know how or if that would work. I know I often look for a second hand on work and rely on a guy to supply that. I also am that 'second hand' for a couple of self employed guys now and again.

Thanks Guys,

will go for the handwritten approach as you suggest. Any tips on what skills/attributes to 'big up'? I'm very handy as am trained in carpentry and have been a foreman on building site

Cheers,

Jim

Hi Steve,

thanks for your help. I'm currently working 9-5 as carpenter for a small company, but am spreading the word offering bathroom re-fits etc in my spare time, so could poss go down route you suggest too. Cheers, Jim
