Hi all,

Hoping for some help to identify this - images attached -

  • I found this in the bowl of my wall mounted toilet in the upstairs bathroom
  • geberit parts but installed by previous home owner
  • The toilet works and there’s no obvious external leak or smell
  • I’ve got 2 kids so not impossible it’s from elsewhere but it looks like something that’s been exposed to liquid for a long time
My guess is it didn’t come from the cistern as it’s too big to travel down unnoticed and feels like ceramic - so more likely from just after the bend.

We had some work done two years ago to fit a new en-suite toilet toilet on the same system so could be from that. In general though most of the system has been looked at recently.

Any ideas before I start pulling tiles off the wall would be really appreciated - again right now the system works fine as far as I can tell and not sure if this actually needs fixed at this point

Cheers

John

The other thing it could be is tile grout.
Tilers have caused many issues pouring the the bucket of water they use for cleaning up grout down drains.

I wouldn't go as far as taking tiles off the wall if everything is working correctly. If you want some piece of mind, hire someone with a drain camera to inspect the drain beyond the pan

thanks guys - Oz and co, these responses have me wonder if the builders and painters used this toilet dispose of the water used to wash paint brushes and plastering tools etc --- maybe it's a build of of that..?
Main thing is, assuming things keep working, I won't be ripping the bathroom apart this weekend (and wife and kids assume I will be so are off out) so instead I'll be sitting in front of the telly.
Cheers guys - will shout if things go wrong

Cheers Pal,
Enjoy your weekend - be f-all on tv due to being so close to Xmas.

You could always watch the Aussies v India test match in Perth.

I know - you being a Pom - much the same as me being an Aussie, we support any team playing against each other.

I would go for any team playing England much the same as you would go for any team playing Australia.

Grout and / or adhesive that had water flowing over it while still soft to give the shiny appearance. As to ripping the place apart... "if it ain't broke"...
