Any help is appreciated.

I am installing a new kitchen sink and faucet which I am fine with. The issue is that there are no shut off valves. I have the main shut off in the basement that will close the supply coming into the house and as a result shut off the cold water. My question is about the hot water. There is no valve to shut off the hot water coming out of the tank so do I need to drain the tank itself before I disconnect the old faucet?

Thanks

The tank itself is in the basement. From what I can tell there are 2 lines. The cold going into the top of the tank (with a shut off valve) and then the hot coming out of the top (with no valve).

If i was you just turn mains water off open all hot taps and run it down. If there is a gate valve to cylinder and its not been turned in years then chances are it will snap shut, which means you will need to get a plumber to sort it out for you, unless you are able to do it your self. When done turn taps off, then mains back on. If you should get an airlock they are much easyier to sort than a stuck gate valve.
