Got a call this morning simple leak sorted but whilst I was there customer ask me to look at his basin. Sink filling up not draining, took trap away cleaned out though no obstruction. Got my sink wire put all done gave it a good old twirl. Got kettle of hot water put down going slowly but going. re assembled trap and sink fills up again.

Put some caustic soda down bubblying away but still not cleared. The onyl thing I can think of now doing is ripping up the floor and install new waste pipe.

Any ideas please.

Before I took drastic action, I think I would try coupling a hose pipe to the waste pipe, don't know what fitting you could use maybe universal compression and washing m/c conector for the hose, try and force out any debris in the waste pipe, probably backed up due to lack of fall.
Hope this helps.

Cheers bathroom boy thanks for the advice may give it a go, just wanted to be careful as pushfit waste connectors have been used. Hows business been since we last posted.

When I started I thought about doing bathrooms but to be honest I have had very few so concentrated on marketing the business for rads and maintenence been flat out this week.

Was called out a coupla days ago on similar quest. Desperate customer told me she'd dismantled the trap and cleaned it, tried 3 applications of Mr Muscle, and had also used her plunger -- all to no avail.

I got out my big beefy plunger and applied a powerful sucking action with the basin half full, and the overflow hole well blocked off (of course) with a wet flannel. Cleared the blockage immediately! She thinks I'm a miracle-worker now!

Yer I tried that as well, but no joy going back Sunday going to try my last resort before ripping up the floor got power flush drain cleaner costly but hasnt let me down yet.

Use a drain snake . . .

Idiots Guide to Blockages
1) Plunge
2) Drain snake
3) Caustic soda
4) Rip out and renew

No two ways about it!

Avatar but I done all that but thinking about the job I commented that the customers toilet was not flushing correctly, bottom entry torbeck valve and that the pan is not clearing as looked pretty manky. My thought is that due to the toilet not flushing even though the customer does not feel this to be a problem the soil pipe for the toilet is connected below the floor to the basin and is in fact backing up.

What do you reckon? going back 10am sunday, thanks for the comments guys/girls.

Job done, used this chemical (Flowrite Drain Cleaner 99% Acid Concentrate) worked a treat though there was a bit of a blow back which scared me as I got covered in water . put new trap on whilst I was there customer thought I would charge for today! But explained he had paid yesterday and the job was not completed satisfactory :).

This job was my first from a new advert I have placed in a local magazine which primarely concentrates on the affluent villages, so I hope word of mouth will get me more work.

Yip!

While I am not a fan of caustic cleaners, I have to say the drain cleaner bought from Plumbers Merchants seems far stronger and better stuff than that bought in ironmongers and the like.

But go careful with it.

Hydrochloric acid (spirits of salts) works well, as well, if not better than caustic soda, just don't get it on any chrome or stainless steel, it will eat them for breakfast and come back for more, also don't breath in the fumes, works a treat for limed up urinals

they invented cleaning eyes to be install it makes life easy ,big or small pipes.
that small extras cost makes life better in the long term

cut the pipe investigate

good luck

Done that pain in the a55 and could have been nasty with the blow back but I survived:D
