I recently bought a house and I have rearranged the upstairs rooms so we can have an ensuite bathroom as well as a main bathroom. I have planned the waste outlets but I am not sure if it will work properly and I have also found out that the pipe run may be too long.

I have a 40mm pipe from the shower that runs under the floorboards approximatly 2m to the outside wall, half way along this run I wanted to add the discharge from the bath. I also have 2 sinks that have 32mm waste pipes that I wanted to join together and also discharge in to this 40mm pipe just after where the bath discharges in to it. Once outside the house the 40mm pipe makes a 90 deg bend and runs a further 2m to the corner of the house then a further 90 bend then 30cm to the main soil stack. I also wanted to add another 32mm sink waste in to the 40mm pipe just after it comes out of the wall of the house. The pipes all have the correct fall.

The waste for the toilets is a 100mm pipe that comes through the wall of the house directly from the main soil stack and runs along the floor inside the house, after 1m one toilet discharges in to it and after another 2m a second toilet discharges in to the end of the pipe. Again it has the correct fall and it will be boxed in once everything is complete.

I cannot change the distance from the shower to the main soil stack but I can add pipes okay, I can connect the sink wastes into the 100mm pipe for the toilets if that is an option.

Any help would be appreciated.

Mick

40mm waste max run is 3m with a fall of 18-90mm

same for the shower waste which should be run seperately to the bath waste.

32mm waste max run is 1.7m with a fall of 18-22mm fall per metre.

If the runs go over this you can either en-large the waste or consider use of AAV's or Hep2o wastes. Hep2o wastes are good but eventually stay open with hair and soap claggage and then you need to replace them.

Bath waste and shower waste should be separate, if they're not and you get a problem you've lost the use of shower and the bath. If your using the shower and empty the bath at the same time the water you'll be trying to get rid of will be too great and you may have other issues.

My advice get it right, do it properly first time then you'll not have any problems. If your struggling with lengths of runs etc consider using a macerator to get rid of the shower waste. Not my first choice but.....

Thanks for the replies. I can add a second pipe for the bath which would be about 3m but I would still have a problem with the showwer waste. Where the wastes go through the wall of the house can I put a length of 100mm pipe horizontally with a fall to the main soil stack and then discharge the bath and shower separately in to this? The run of both wastes would then be a lot less than 3m to this pipe. Can I discharge the sink wastes into the 100mm soil pipe for the toilets that runs horizontally direct through the wall to the main soil stack?

If I cannot do any of these and the pipes are still too long can I put a ventilated discharge system?

Thanks Mick
