Hello after a recent fire the house became vacant and whilst it was empty somebody decided to break in and steal all the copper tube and dismantle my boiler, They left the radiators intact. I got a Plumber round who said he will fit me a combi boiler but i wont need a cistern? Is this true . I have decided to fit the pipework myself and just leave the boiler for him but was concerned as he said i dont need to install a cistern, Can you please give me some advice, Also whats a good boiler to supply 7 radiators. Thank you for your help in advance.

hello mate. i'm sure some of the more experienced guys will offer some advice soon. but in the mean time i can tell you that a combi is normally fed from the mains supply, and heats your hot water supply on demand. the central heating side is normally a sealed system, from the mains, to a set pressure. so the rad water just circulates within the system pipework.

good luck

Can you still fit cobi boilers? a neigbour has just advised me that you can now only fit condensing boiler?

To try and save confusion and keeping to a small summary ...

In the simplest form there are two types of boiler - combi and system. System boilers heat a tank full of hot water and combi boilers heat water on demand. Both types are condensing.

Condensing is the name given to the process of using the heat of the exhaust gases for the purposes of fuel efficiency.

There are other types of boilers and heaters (e.g. utility, Agas, immersion for hot water, etc.) but in most cases the sensible choices are limited to combi or system.

ok thank you for your help. So if i fitted all the pipework and he fitted the boiler , would i need to fit a room stat and a 24hour time clock or would he do this or are they built in. Sorry if i sound stupid im a noob at this although i am very capable of installing the pipework. thankyou in advance.

most boilers have a built in clock as an extra if not as standard and you need a rom stat most use wireless now

Thank you for that its been very helpful. Just one last thing would i be able to use the following pipe for the central heating network, obviously i will be branching copper pipe off it for above floor level ( to radiators ). Thank you in advance.

I'd advise you to let the installer do everything, if your covered by insurance why not pay for a proper job, your insurers wont be impressed with a flood next!
