hi i am new to the forum so please forgive my newbe status!

after a terrible house fire i am refitting our bathroom, and need advice on the pop up plugs i want to use in the bath and the sink.
i am considering getting them from america as the ones i want are copper effect - is U.S plumbing different from here and if so how?

also the hole in my new sink is 4.5cm wide, and the popup plugs are either 1 1 /2 inch or 1 5/8 inch - which should i use please?

also, any advice for ataching them to the sink and bath - silicon glue?

how should i remove the old drain from the bath, as i want to keep the old bath?

thansk you lovely plumbers for your help!

minxyvic :)

Not to sure about yankee doodle sizes looks like they use 40 mm for basin? note the difference between basin and sink! , Follow my measurements. And wastes are always measured in imperial. The sink is referred to as a basin for the bathroom and will be 32mm pipe with a 1 and 1/4 inch ( british). Use some silicon around the top and some plumbers mait just under the hole from the overflow. The bath is 40 mm pipe wastes and 1 and 1/2 inch . Stop being fussy and get some british wastes , support uk manufacturing!! If I were you I would get a plumber . Good luck if you dont though ;)

thanks john,
id love to get them from the UK but cant find what i want here.
do you know of anywhere that does copper taps and pop up plugs at a reasonable price, i have had no luck and only found them here at very expensive prices. what i want are oiled copper, so sort of aged and contemporary?.
from what you said, am i right that (for the basin) the pop up plug should be 1 1/4 inch in size and the waste pipe 32mm. can i use either of the pop up plug sizes on the basin then? the 1 1/2 is the smaller option would this fit the
the bath should be 40mm pipe with 1 1/2 inch waste?
the basin hole is 45mm or 1.77 inches.
thanks , vic

Dont know where you can get any , what is a reasonable price?? remember the expensive ones increase the value of your property!
Bath 40mm waste 1 1/2 inch
Basin will be 32mm or 1 1/4 inch buy a carp one just to see!
no you can only use the sizes designated for the correct size plug hole as it is a quater inch bigger .
Personally I would not get it from America as there is a slim chance it just wont be right somehow. What if it breaks? what if the plumber sees it wont fit and charges you more cash to go and get one that fits?

Hmm

The US waste sizes look the same as our's, but you want the threads on the waste to be BSPT or the UK traps probably will not fit.

also think about when they need servicing.
b&q do antique oil/brass taps fitted some last sept.
