Hi all,we have had no heating or water for 2 weeks from boiler, boiler engineer came, its a worcester bosch greenstar boiler,2 weeks ago, changed the heat exchanger, the boiler is just over a year old,we were only getting minimal heat in the rads and the boiler was cutting out and water pumping over into the header tank.Engineer said there was probably a blockage somewhere we could try draining the system a few times. The radiators were old so we bit the bullet and changed all but one which was new.Now still no heat or hot water and one radiator doesnt have air or water in when bled,we have turned all valves off upstairs where that radiator is and it gets hot at bottom right but thats it,we are now at our wits end as to what to do or what the problem is so any help would be appreciated please.

so you had a blockage, who said replace all the rads, changing rads would not of removed the blockage as you have found, did you do it yourself ?,why did you not go for a power flush/system clean to clear and clean system ?

the engineer thought prob the blockage might be in the rads upstairs as that was playin up beforeand as it happens they were full of sludge and debris, didnt go for a power flush as rads were so old and was told system might not cope with it and that it may cause leaks. The gas safe engineer who put the boiler in put a cleaner in the system we later found out but never flushed it out so prob made situation worse,we also cleaned the tank in loft as it had a couple of inches of sludge and what look like iron bits in prob from system.yes we did the rads ourselves and they are fine no leaks,we have changed rads before and been fine.

Hi diamond,we have now found out that the person who put boiler in knew there was issues but skirted round them, leaving us with a worse problem which we could have adressed at the time. All other rads fill up and can be bled.

You really need someone to take a look at the way the pipes are installed B4 you're new boiler is of no use! Sounds like you have a pumping over issue first thoughts ...

Hi poppyseed ... The fact that the radiators can be filled means very little regards circulation ... I'd say you've had a less than considerate installer. Thing is though if you don't get it addressed soon the "new" boiler will age rapidly, that is if it hasn't already done so ....

The other odd thing is the drain valve is on the kitchen radiator but there is another radiator in the office which is like the end of the system, when we drain from the kitchen one it doent empty the office one.

Hi
we had same problem.
our rads are well over 20 years old but an engineer flushed the system and fitted an inline magnetite and sludge filter.
Caution though, get a written quote detailing the work as our engineer didn,t flush the system properly and blocked every valve .
He then sent us a bill for £870 instead of the £300 his wife gave us from him over the phone .
2 yaers later the filter leaks despite following his advice on cleaning it.
He also never told us to dose the system every other year with an inhibitor

Ok diamond when money allows that is what we will have to do,the person who installed it failed to say the company was liquidating whilst doing the job so left us in a right pickle.

I don't know your financial circumstances but it does sound like you are in the mire right now with no heating or hot water!! Has the boiler failed all together?

Daisydad will check, safe gas that is what scares me after the cowboy who fitted the boiler knowing there were probs and diamond no the boiler is still working but the green light which must be for the thermostat cuts out then it was pumping over into the loft,as it stands after the bosch man called the boiler is like new.

Diamond I still have an immersion thank gudness so can get water that way which is expensive but beta than nothing, and we are using calor gas heaters,at mo havent got money to call anyone out but due some money in the next month.

Just taking a step back and re-reading poppyseed :)

You've had a new heatexchanger fitted by Worcester (2weeks ago), they say the boiler is like new? You have pumping over still occuring and there are no radiators heating up or hot water comming out the taps yeh?

But then one radiator won't fill up fully and is only hot along the bottom? What about the rest of the system, any warmth at all in those radiators? Where is your worcester situated, downstairs or up?

It's at times like these that you need to find a kind hearted and considerate plumber willing to do you a buy now pay later scheme :)

Hi all sorry didnt receive notification of more postings so couldnt reply,ok a quick update, all radiators even though new have now been off the walls, flushed through with hoses in garden and all pipes blown through, turned heating on on saturday morning and all upstairs rads hot except the same one still hot halfway up but come to conclusion bleed valve broken,to be honest was thankful to have heat upstairs at least,my other half came home from work drained boiler, lots more black muck came out.turned heating on sunday and hey presto all works except one rad still but will replace that, water when draining now running nearly clear. We will be putting cleaner in the system and then after its flushed inhibitor in the system and having a magna clean fitted,so seems there was a blockage in the system and its now cleared thank goodness.thank you all for your help and suggestions when I was at my wits end.
