Hi guys,

Hopefully you can help me, I have just moved into a rented property and the boiler (Ferolli Optima) has a mains plug fitted, and is plugged into a normal double socket.
Is it legal and secondly what steps can I take to remedy this if it is not legal.

Thanks Guys.

Yes ,this is acceptable,it most have it's own socket to plug into, one of a double socket is Ok and not connected through an adaptor and should have a 3amp fuse fitted in plug, cabling to boiler should be clipped or trunked and not left dangling also if condensing boiler should have interlock/room thermostat fitted to meet energy efficiency regs

Would add you should have been given an in date gas safety certificate (carried out within the last year),to show gas appliances have ben checked, safe and installed correctly

IMHO

Lol have to laugh sometimes.

No its not illegal, its how everything's plugged in isnt it? So why would it be any different with a boiler :S

As per puddle and Kip, its also how its shown in the instruction manual on some boilers! although it does look crap and stops you from plugging in your Goerge Fornby lean mean grilling machine.

is that any better than a george foreman grill,

Thanks guys for your helpful advice,I may add I am not a plumber so was a bit worried when I saw the boiler, but most of you gave helpful reassuring advice.

See this is what happens when you do not read post!! they have a double socket, meaning the Goerge Fornby lean mean grilling machine with removable grease catcher and simmer button can be plugged into that and and maybe just removed when the Magimix Le Duo Plus XL Juice Extractor is required 😀😉😀

Only trouble puddle is that both plugs are taken up, but only have 1 other socket in the kitchen and that is for the kettle, could always set up the George Foreman in the lounge, 🙂

i think pluggin a boiler in is cheating, legal or not.

Plugs are for portable appliances not for fixed. I would concide if your boiler is portable!😱

as opposed to a fuse spur fuzzy, were if its single pole the neutral is still live

oh i see, sorry mate didnt get what you said

yeh, dont the fuse spurs have to double pole? i wouldnt trust a single pole myself

you dont always know that a spur is wired properly without testing but a plug thats out is definate
ive had spurs that were completely bypassed ie both wires in one terminal
