Can anyone answer my question please. My radiators are only partially heating. They are hot at top and down the ends of the radiators but the bottom half of the middle third is still cold, this has happend to 3 of the radiators in my house. Is a good bleeding all that is required or something more serious.

Rads which need bleeding are normally cold at the top - the air rises and settles at the top. Your rads have the typical symptoms of sludge build up.

Remove one at a time and hose them through in the garden. Thumping them with a rubber hammer will help to dislodge the sludge.

You may need to do a chemical flush on the whole system using Sentinel X400, X800 or similar.

As a worst case you will have to get the system power flushed, but that can cost over £300.

thanks for ur reply. Very much appreciated. Will get onto that first thing in the morning. Again, thanks.

I would drain the entire system before taking the rads off ane washing oiut. Put some water in them and give a good slosh about.

Take off the pump head and give everything a good scrub out with an old toothbrush.

Don't forget to add inhibitor when you recharge the system.

Personally id add a sludge remover to the system, leave it in for a week or so with the heating on to allow it to work, then give the rads a tap with a rubber mallet to loosen things up and only then drain and flush the system through a couple of times before refilling and running up the system to see how the rads work, easier than carting around rads, which is a last resort as they can be rather heavy and leave nasty black drip marks on the carpet. the chemical flush allows the whole system a chanceto loosten up the muck in the system first before flushing it through. Addxitionally a power flush costs around £450 around here and upto £700 plus in London

blimey ime doing a flush for 200 and the customer nearly pooed himself

I'm doing a powerflush for typically around £200 - £250 which is around the price my competition is charging. Charge any more and I won't get any business! I cost it roughly at £20 per rad plus £40 chemicals. The visit beforehand to load the system cleaner is charged as a separate visit.
